Technical check or buying-question report? This is the difference

Both are called an “AI check” and both produce a score. They just measure something completely different, and that difference determines whether you get anything out of it.

A technical check looks at your website: is it reachable for AI crawlers, is there structured data, is the structure right. That is a check of your own domain, done in seconds. A report based on buying questions puts real questions to AI systems and looks at whether you appear in the answer. That measures not your site but your position in the market. Being technically in order and still never being named is common — we measured it on ourselves.

Where the two differ

They do not exclude each other; they answer a different question and they belong in that order.

1

What is measured

The technical check measures your own pages: robots.txt, sitemap, structured data, load time, headings. The buying-question report measures answers from AI systems to questions from your market, in which your name does not appear.

2

What the outcome means

A technical score of 80 says that AI can read your site. It says nothing about whether AI names you. We ourselves scored 75 on technology while five of eight buying questions produced no mention at all. Those two numbers measure different things.

3

What you can do with it

A technical check gives a list of things to repair on your own site. A buying-question report shows who is named in your place and which sources that rests on — information that lies outside your domain and that you cannot find out yourself.

4

What it costs in time

A technical check runs in seconds and can be free. A buying-question report puts real questions to real platforms; eight questions across six platforms are 48 measurements and that takes minutes of processing. That difference in turnaround is inherent to what is measured.

Side by side

Start with the technical check; it is free and exposes the basics. The buying-question report then tells you whether it works.

Frequently asked questions

Is a technical AI check enough?
As a first step, yes. It exposes whether AI systems can read your site at all. But being technically in order does not guarantee that you are named: we ourselves scored 75 on technology while five of eight buying questions produced no mention.
What exactly does a report based on buying questions measure?
It asks questions the way your customer asks them, without your brand name, on several AI platforms. Per answer it records whether you were retrieved, cited, mentioned or recommended, and which parties appeared in your place.
Can I have a good technical score and still be invisible?
Yes, and that is the rule rather than the exception. Technology determines whether you are readable; whether you are named depends on your proposition, your evidence and what others publish about you.
Which should I do first?
The technical check, because it is free and repairs the basics. Without a readable site, measuring makes little sense. After that, a buying-question report tells you whether that basis also produces results.
